BSR Stars is a flagship within the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. It aims at strengthening competitiveness and economic growth in the Baltic Sea Region by linking strong research environments, clusters and SME networks – creating a number of globally-leading innovation partnerships that address common “grand challenges” in the Baltic Sea Region. As an extension of this the programme also aims at strengthening innovation policy capabilities to work with smart specialisation on a macro-regional level.
BSR Stars seeks to mobilize transnational collaboration on three fronts:
• Facilitating linkages
• Developing collaborative strength
• Strengthening the Policy Framework
Currently the Projects that are actively contributing within the BSR Stars programme are: BSR Innovation Express, IRIS, LARS, Smartup BSR, Smartup Accelerator and BSR Stars S3.
BSR Stars S3 seeks to enhance sustainable growth opportunities in the Baltic Sea Region, focusing on the fields of bio-, circular- and digital economy.
BSR Innovation Express is a joint call for proposals supporting the internationalisation of SMEs through cluster initiatives.
LARS, Learning among Regions on Smart Specialisation, attempts to help the public sector in leading smart specialisation processes in their regions and to connect innovation networks across regions.
IRIS will improve and strengthen management and support capacity in Baltic Sea Region incubator organisations.
SmartUp BSR helps regions apply research and innovation strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3) by sharing best practices and knowledge of EU RIS3 experts and co-creating concepts for the RIS3 implementation.
SmartUp Accelerator focuses on building consumer cleantech ecosystems, activating innovation actors and improving their skills to identify brilliant ideas and foster teams committed to creating new businesses.
